General Festival Information
From October 4 – 20, 2025, Downtown Rahway will glow under one shared lunar light as the city unveils Festival of the Moon— a three-week fusion of art, science, music, and community built around Luke Jerram’s world-famous Museum of the Moon sculpture presented at the Union County Performing Arts Center (UCPAC). Timed-entry viewings inside the ornate 1928 theater pair with moon-themed ballet, symphony, film nights, a lantern-lit Moonlit Market, and late-night bites from Rahway’s award-winning dining scene. Family-friendly performances include film, children’s theater, and more. The festival’s mission is simple: bring people together under one moon while shining a national spotlight on Rahway’s creative economy.
INTRODUCTION – MUSEUM OF THE MOON
Created by UK artist Luke Jerram, Museum of the Moon is a seven-metre (23-ft)-diameter sphere printed with 120-dpi NASA lunar imagery and lit from within to reveal every crater and cliff at 1 : 500,000 scale— each centimetre on the sculpture equals five kilometres of the real lunar surface. Suspended inside UCPAC’s 1,300-seat Main Stage, the installation will be accompanied by an original soundscape, offering visitors an immersive, contemplative experience that has captivated more than ten million people on five continents.
